Terms and Conditions
Last updated 1 September 2026
These terms apply to the website bdfa.org.my (“the website”) and to registering for and attending events organised by the Buddha Dhamma Fellowship Association Kuching (“BDFA”, “we”, “us”), a society registered with the Registrar of Societies, Malaysia (Reg. No. PPM-019-13-11071995). By using the website or registering for an event, you agree to these terms. Please also read our Privacy Policy and, for events with a fee, our Cancellation and Refund Policy.
The website
The website provides information about BDFA, its activities and events, and recordings of past talks. We try to keep the information accurate and up to date, but we do not promise that it is complete or free of errors, and we may change or remove content at any time without notice.
Dhamma talks, recordings and other material on the website are offered for general reflection and study. They are not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. If you have a health concern, please consult a qualified professional.
Event registration
- Submitting a registration form is an application to attend. Where places are limited, BDFA selects participants from the applications received, taking into account the criteria stated on the event page (for example, the ability to attend the full programme). A registration does not guarantee a place until we confirm it.
- Please give accurate and complete information, including about your health, so that we can look after you safely. We may decline or withdraw a place if the information given is misleading.
- Any fee for an event is stated on the event page. Fees cover the costs stated there (for example meals and materials). Registering costs nothing; the fee is payable only after we confirm your place, in the way we tell you at that point. Refunds are governed by the Cancellation and Refund Policy.
- Places are personal and cannot be transferred to someone else without our agreement.
- BDFA may change the programme, teacher, venue or dates of an event if circumstances require, and will tell registered participants as soon as reasonably possible. If we cancel an event, fees paid will be refunded in full.
Taking part in events
- Participants are expected to follow the guidance of the teacher and the organisers, the rules of the Buddha Dhamma Centre or other venue (including on dress, conduct and footwear), and any retreat conditions stated for the event, such as periods of noble silence and the handing in of mobile phones.
- Please treat the venue, other participants and the community with respect. BDFA may ask a participant to leave an event, without refund, where their conduct is disruptive, unsafe or disrespectful to others.
- You take part at your own responsibility. Meditation retreats involve long periods of sitting and walking practice; please tell us in advance about any physical or mental-health condition that may affect you, and speak to a doctor if you are unsure whether the programme is suitable for you. BDFA is a volunteer-run society and is not able to provide medical care beyond basic first aid and calling for help.
- Some events are, for reasons of Malaysian law, open to non-Muslims only. This is stated on the event page where it applies.
- We may photograph or record talks and events for BDFA’s records, this website and the BDFA YouTube channel. Photographs and recordings normally focus on the teacher; if you would prefer not to appear in any published image or recording, please tell an organiser on the day and we will do our best to respect that.
- Please look after your own belongings. BDFA is not responsible for loss of or damage to personal property at events.
Intellectual property
The BDFA name and crest, the content of this website, and recordings of talks belong to BDFA or to the teachers who gave them. You are welcome to view, share links to and print material for personal, non-commercial study and reflection. Please do not reproduce, edit or redistribute recordings or written material for other purposes without our permission.
Third-party services and links
Registration and contact forms are provided by Tally.so; maps by Google Maps; recordings are hosted on YouTube; and we may correspond with you on WhatsApp. These services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Links to other websites are provided for convenience and do not mean BDFA endorses them or is responsible for their content.
Liability
BDFA is a non-profit religious society run by volunteers. To the extent permitted by law, BDFA, its committee members and volunteers are not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from your use of the website or attendance at an event, except where caused by our negligence or wilful default. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Privacy
We handle personal data as described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they were last changed. The terms in force when you register for an event apply to that registration.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and any dispute is subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Sarawak.
