Our motto

Khanti · Sacca · Adhiṭṭhāna — patience, truth, determination. Khanti, sacca and adhiṭṭhāna are three of the ten pāramī, the qualities cultivated on the Buddhist path: patient endurance, truthfulness, and the firm resolve to see one's practice through.

What we do

The fellowship gathers for a weekly puja every week at 10.00 am at the Buddha Dhamma Centre — chanting, offerings and a period of quiet reflection. Through the year BDFA invites visiting teachers for Dhamma talks, meditation sessions and retreats, and makes Buddhist literature and teachings available to members and the public. The association also works alongside other Buddhist and religious societies and supports charitable and welfare bodies for the well-being of the community.

The centre

Objects of the Society

As set out in the Society's constitution, the objects of the Society are:

1. To study propagate carry out and practise the teachings of the Buddha, with particular reference to the Theravada Tradition of practice and doctrine.
2. To encourage promote arrange and organise Dhamma talks lectures and seminars.
3. To make arrange promote propagate and distribute Buddhist literature texts and teachings for distributions to its members and the public.
4. To co-operate and foster better relationship with various registered Buddhist societies associations or bodies.
5. To foster better relationship and understanding with other registered religious societies associations or bodies.
6. To render assistance to charitable organisations, welfare bodies and other associations for the well being of the people in general.
7. To acquire hold and own properties (including land and buildings) assets and other facilities to promote the Society's objectives.
8. To raise funds through financial institutions with the approval of the general meeting and/or public donations or in ways and approaches deemed fit by the Committee to implement activities and projects of the Society in order to fulfill any of the aforementioned objects. Prior permission to raise fund must be obtained from the Registrar of Societies and the approval of the authority concerned.
9. The Society shall not provide any place for worship by the members including its premises, unless such place/premises has been gazetted for the purpose.
